One Contract-based Faculty Position Announcement
The English Language Center, Tunghai University
The English Language Center at Tunghai University invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The position is renewable subject to the annual evaluation results. The appointment will take effect on August 1, 2027.
【Qualifications】
- MA/Ph.D.* in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, Curriculum and Instruction, Applied Linguistics, or related fields;
- Ability to use English as the medium of instruction;
- Experience in curriculum development, educational technology including the use of AI, self-access learning resources, and English proficiency assessments for students, faculty, and staff members;
- Commitment to supporting the University’s bilingual development, internationalization initiatives, and industry-academia collaboration projects; and
- Dedication, collaboration, and effective communicative skills to achieve efficiency in teamwork.
* According to Article 7, Paragraph 3 of the Implementation Regulations Regarding Distance Learning by Institutions of Higher Education (專科以上學校遠距教學實施辦法) promulgated by the Ministry of Education: “The number of distance learning course credits counted toward the total credits required for graduation shall not exceed one-half of the total graduation credits.” (Link: https://edu.law.moe.gov.tw/LawContent.aspx?id=FL040400)
【Duties】
- Teach at least 12 hours per week;
- Teach Freshman English, Sophomore English, and elective English courses (for non-English majors);
- Complete assigned administrative tasks and extracurricular activities;
- Coordinate within and between committees;
- Assist the Center with project proposals and management and, if nominated, serve on college and university committees.
【Salary and Benefits】
- Starting salary: NT$ 64,850/month for a Lecturer; NT$ 83,720/month for an Assistant Professor (before tax)
- Health Insurance: Coverage under Taiwan’s National Health Insurance plan for the employee and all dependents;
- Labor insurance: Enrollment in Taiwan’s Labor Insurance Plan;
- Paid vacation: Approximately 12 weeks per year (Winter/Summer);
- Annual Bonus: Equivalent of 1.5 months’ salary after a full year of service;
- Additional compensation: Overtime pay and project stipend opportunities; and
- Faculty are able to apply for promotion in accordance with university regulations (Teaching-based or Research-based).

- A sample course syllabus for one of the courses you can offer;
- A 3 to 5-minute self-introductory video addressing the following:
6.1 your knowledge and/or experiences of teaching English in higher education institutes in Taiwan, such as students’ learning styles, motivation, and performance; and
6.2 how well your background and teaching experience would fit in and contribute to the English Language Center.
- MA Thesis/Ph.D. Dissertation (required) and publications (if any);
- Two recent reference letters;
- A photocopy of the Teaching Certificate issued by R.O.C. Ministry of Education (M.O.E) if available.
