【How to take Freshman English, Sophomore English, and ELC Elective classes】

【Freshman English (FENM)】

■ Introduction: (link)

■ Freshman students taking the English Placement Exam this semester will not required to apply for manual add and will be placed into "Freshman English" course by the ELC.

Manual Add Only 

Application Duration: September 7 (Saturday, 8:00 a.m.) to 11 (Wednesday, 5:00 p.m.), September 13 (Friday, 8:00 a.m.) to 16 (Monday, 5:00 p.m.), 2024

Online Registration: ELC Application Form (no need to apply in-person) (Before taking Freshman English classes, students must take English Placement Exam.)

■ After receiving the applications, the ELC may spend 3 working days arranging.  And then the ELC will send applicants emails.  The Freshman English course will show in the personal class schedule.

■ If applicants do not get emails or the class schedule do not show Freshman English classes, please contact the ELC by September 18 (Wednesday).

【Sophomore English (SENM)】

■ Students are allowed to register on the pre-registration (Sophomore students only), the first period (Sophomore students only), and the second period of online course registration in Student Information System.

■ Manual Add:

(1) Application Duration: September 13 (Friday, 8:00 a.m.) to 16 (Monday, 5:00 p.m.), 2024

(2) Online Registration: ELC Application Form (no need to apply in-person)

(3) After receiving the applications, the ELC will arrange your course by September 19 (Thursday).  And then the ELC will send applicants an email notice.  The Sophomore English course will show in the personal class schedule.

(4) If applicants do not get emails or the class schedule do not show Sophomore English classes, please contact the ELC by September 20 (Friday).
 

【ELC Elective】

Introduction: (link)

■ Students are allowed to register on the pre-registration and the first period of online course registration in Student Information System.

■ Manual Add: Students are allowed to ask teachers directly if any seats are available from September 9 (Monday) to 20 (Friday), 2024.
 

【English Placement Exam】

Purpose: (1) Freshman English course taking (2) Freshman and Sophomore English waiving (Type II)

■ Eligible Applicants: (except Department of Foreign Languages and Literature)

(1) Freshmen students and summer transfer students in academic year 2024-2025 (No need to sign up)

(2) If you are not Freshmen and summer transfer students in academic year 2024-2025 and have not take the English Placement Exam yet, please sign up here.

Date: September 4 (Wednesday), 2024 

Time: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

■ Please bring the Student ID card, a 2B pencil, and an eraser.

Venue: CKS (CKS Memorial Auditorium) and SS (College of Social Science)  (Seating Charts are as attached.) (TBA)

Note:

(1) After the Placement Exam on September 4, Freshman students will be added to a "Freshman English" course by Sunday, September 8.  Other students need to follow the following steps to do Freshman English course manual add.  Students who want to waive the Freshman and Sophomore English need to apply here.

(2) Students who are unable to take the Plaement Exam on September 4 need to pay attention to the make-up exam information. (TBA)
 


【FENM and SENM Waiving Policy】

Application Duration: September 2 (Monday) to 13 (Friday), 2024 (For TYPE II applicants, please check if you are eligible after September 9.)

Eligible Applicants: Freshman and summer transfer students in academic year 2024-2025 (except the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature)

Notes:

(1) After submitting your application, you can check the Student Information System for the FENM & SENM Waiving Result within 1-2 days.

(2) Please email the ELC any changes required by September 20 (Friday), 2024.

(3) Once your application is approved, please check your class schedule. If you still have a freshman English course in your class schedule, please sign up for course drop from the Student Information System by yourself.
