112 AY 1st semester: How to take Freshman English, Sophomore English, and ELC Elective classes
【Freshman English (FENM)】(Introduction)
Manual Add Only

Application Duration: September 11 (Monday, 8:00 a.m.) to 15 (Friday, 5:00 p.m.), 2023

Online Registration: ELC Application Form (no need to apply in-person) (Before taking Freshman English classes, students must take English Placement Exam.)

■ After receiving the applications, the ELC may spend 3 working days arranging. And then the ELC will send applicants emails.

■ If applicants do not get emails or the class schedule do not show Freshman English classes by September 15 (Friday), please contact the ELC as soon as possible.

【Sophomore English (SENM)】(Introduction)
■ Students are allowed to register on the pre-registration, the first and second period of online course registration in Student Information System.

■ Manual Add:
(1) Application Duration: September 15 (Friday, 8:00 a.m.) to 18 (Monday, 5:00 p.m.), 2023
(2) Online Registration: ELC Application Form (no need to apply in-person)
(3) After receiving the applications, the ELC will arrange your course by Wednesday, Sept. 20. And then the ELC will send applicants an email notice.
(4) If applicants do not get emails or the class schedule do not show Sophomore English classes by September 20 (Wednesday), please contact the ELC as soon as possible.
 
【ELC Elective】
■ Students are allowed to register on the pre-registration and the first period of online course registration in Student Information System.
■ Manual Add:
(1) Students are allowed to ask teachers by in-person if any seats are available.
(2) Application Duration: September 11 (Monday) to 15 (Friday), 2023.

【112 AY 1st semester: English Placement Exam】
Purpose: (1) Freshman English course taking (2) Freshman and Sophomore English waiving (Type II)

Date: September 6, 2023 (Wednesday)

Time: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Venue: CKS (CKS Memorial Auditorium) and SS (College of Social Science)  (Seating Chart is as attached)

Note:

(1) Please bring the Student ID card, a 2B pencil, and an eraser.

(2) After the placement exam on September 6, Freshman students will be added "Freshman English" course by Sunday, September 10. (Transfer students need to follow the following steps to do Freshman English course manual add.)



*Sign-up for taking the Online Make-up Placement Exam
1. Sign-up by September 15 (Friday, 17:00): https://form2.thu.edu.tw/550490 (You can take the exam on the day after you sign-up.)
2. Exam Date: September 7 (Thursday; 8:00 a.m.) to September 15 (Firday)
3. How to Take the Exam: (Check the attachment "how to log in and take the exam")
(1) Login to iLearn digital platform (https://ilearn.thu.edu.tw/) with your Tunghai username and password.
(2) Each student can do the exam only once. The exam lasts 70 minutes. There are Listening section (20 questions) and Reading section (40 questions).
(3) After taking the placement exam: please do the Freshman English Online Manual Add Application by Sept. 15.

Application Duration: September 4 (Monday) to 15 (Friday), 2023 (For TYPE II applicants, please check if you are eligible after the placement exam.)

Eligible Applicants: Freshman and summer transfer students in academic year 2023-2024 (except the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature)

(1) After submitting your application, you can check the Student Information System for the FENM & SENM Waiving Result within 1-2 days.
(2) Please email the ELC any changes required by September 22 (Friday), 2023.
(3) Once your application is approved, please check your class schedule. If you still have a freshman English course in your class schedule, please sign up for course drop from the Student Information System by yourself.
