Contract-based Assistant Professor or above Position Announcement

The English Language Center, Tunghai University

 

The English Language Center at Tunghai University invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or above. The appointment will be effective as of August 1, 2024.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, Applied Linguistics, Curriculum and Instruction, or related fields;
  2. Ability to use English as the medium of instruction;
  3. Experience in curriculum development, educational technology, learning resources for self-access, and English proficiency assessments for students, faculty, and staff members;
  4. A commitment to assisting the University’s bilingual development and internationalization; and
  5. Dedication, collaboration, and effective communicative skills to achieve efficiency in teamwork.
  6. Evidence of scholarly promise and commitment to research.

 

Duties:

  1. Teach at least 12 hours per week;
  2. Teach Freshman English, Sophomore English, and elective English courses (for non-English majors);
  3. Complete assigned administrative tasks and English-learning activities;
  4. Coordinate within and between committees;
  5. Assist the Center with project applications and management and, if nominated, serve on college and university committees.

 

Salary and Benefits:

  1. Salary: NT$73,640/month (before tax);
  2. Basic Health Insurance: National Health Insurance Plan covering the employee and all dependents;
  3. Taiwan’s Labor Insurance Plan;
  4. Approximately 12 weeks paid vacations (Winter/Summer);
  5. Annual Bonus: Equivalent of 1.5 month’s salary after a full year of service;
  6. Overtime pay, and project stipend opportunities; and
  7. Faculty can apply for promotion in accordance with university regulations (Teaching-based or Research-based).

  4. Photocopies of Ph.D. diploma and transcript (Foreign diplomas need to be certified);
  5. A sample course syllabus for one of the courses you can offer;
  6. A 3 to 5-minute self-introductory video addressing the following:

6.1 your background and teaching experience;

6.2 your knowledge of teaching in Taiwan and/or other countries; and

6.3 how well your expertise, experience and teaching style would fit in the ELC program.

  1. Ph.D. dissertation and publications (if any);
  2. Two recent reference letters;
  3. A photocopy of the Certificate issued by Taiwan Ministry of Education (M.O.E) (if you have one).
